Getting sorted

Tuesday morning, and after working out how to make breakfast in the new kitchen - coffee & heating & kettle & hairdryers = overloading the electrics. We laugh and are reminded of Lou's humorous comment that 'Italy is a third world country'. We only tripped it once though..

Then the unloading started - clearly the most important cargo came first...

I then headed off to the airport to drop off the van - it's the first time that I have seen the Aeroporto di S. Egidio (Perugia Airport to you and me) and it is charming, all very leisured. I thought that it would cause more kerfuffle, dropping off a UK van, but no, the Hertz guy took it all in his stride. Then I picked up a one-week hire from Avis, and headed back to the house.

On my return, both vans had been unloaded, furniture located, and though the house was a bit of a chaos of boxes, it was amazing how organised it was. Thus, a quick dash to the supermarket for the necessaries..and soon we were lunching outside in the last week of November! I didn't have my sunglasses to hand and I needed them..

Wednesday was then a chance for a little bit of time out to enjoy Umbria, quiet without all the tourists...a visit to the lovely Spello and an amazing lunch in Enoteca Properzio, almost unbookable in summer but in November, we were one of only a couple of tables, and also we had a chance to talk to the owner. Lovely!

Thursday morning arrived and Keith and Pete needed to get under way fairly early, to make the journey back to the UK. Even as I write this, the emotion of that moment cannot be understated.

We are officially abandoned in Italy..!

Later that day we took a bit of a walk to clear the mind, and remind ourselves of this beautiful place that we will get to know more and more..this is where we will be for at least the next year!
