In Papiano, the Christmas Eve mass (or Vigil) is a key point in the festivities. This year was something different, as the work to repair the Church after the 2016 Terremoto (earthquake) had not quite finished, and thus the mass was held in the Parco Communale. It was a wonderful time to see the village, hundreds of us in the brightly lit and simple community hall, joining in the Mass. Lots of Ciaos, handshakes, kisses and hugs. We felt truly part of the village. And, we look forward to Easter when (so we hear) the renovations will be complete and the bells will ring again. Not too long to wait..
After the services we headed (naturally) to the bar, for a quick Prosecco and a 'Salute'. Dear Antonio is the spirit of welcome there. It was a mix of ages and groups.
