Up, and out for a Christmas morning walk. We pulled on some simple gear and just got out the door...when we arrived at the bar for a quick coffee, everyone was there in a suit and tie, in readiness for their Christmas diner. It rather looked like a crowd awaiting a coach to pick them up for an outing! We did feel somewhat that we had let the side down, but no matter. Then, back home to change, and out the door for just before 13.00..
...to L'Antico Forziere (the old treasure chest, we think..) for Christmas Lunch. It's the first time in over 20 years that we have been just the two of us, and we were rather looking forward to the new experience. There was some trepidation about dining out on Christmas Day - we were not sure if we'd be the only ones in the room - but in fact the place was packed, a mix of couples, small family groups and one large party of 12. During the lunch we did try to spot who had 'come to Christmas Lunch by mistake'... there are always a few!
The menu was fixed and very 'classic', with (as we thought) a choice of pasta dishes...we quickly ordered a glass of prosecco and a bottle of Greco di Tufo at the same time. Samuele knows us now and sees this as a normal order for English diners. Italian diners, by contrast, will often make a bottle stretch between 10 and still have leftovers. Several were just on water.. Anyway, I digress....
The menu

And so we start....course 1...a beautiful terrine..

Course 2....the classic Cappelletti in Brodo (you will recall the chat about this at the spinning class..)

Course 3 - when we realised that there were two pasta courses...it was gorgeous though!

Course 4 - rich saddle of pork..

Course 5 - there's always space for a pudding...

And finally a coffee...

A fabulous spread, and all we had to do was to get home and flop on the sofa in front of a film. Which we duly did. The sheer amount of food put all thoughts of any evening snack out of mind...
