Thank you, Margo..

We decided that it would be much easier to sell our two cars in the UK, and rent over here for a number of months. It is not possible to buy a car in Italy without residency (which we don't have yet..) so this is probably the only way. Price wise it doesn't work out too badly anyway, especially as insurance is very pricey here, and they will not roll forward any UK 'no claims bonus'. I booked a medium-sized car from Sixt, for collection from Rome airport - a bit of a faff but the only real option that I could see. On arrival they did not have a single car that had 90 days rental available (after all they only had 3 months notice and a few emails from me to confirm the type..hardly any time to prepare at all..ok, *sarcasm off*) and so we have ended up with a Jeep - quite a tank of a thing to be honest. Though maybe it will be very good if the weather turns bad.

One of it's more 'amusing' features is a lady who announces speed limits, in a 1950's BBC continuity announcer style..as we can't turn it off, we have nicknamed her 'Margo'..'thank you Margo' being our constant refrain..

This joke of course is lost on anyone not familiar with The Good Life, a 1970s UK sitcom..apologies for that.
