The residency process starts....

4th December is the day that we officially commenced our residency process in Italy. The important point was to start it before any Brexiting - getting the stamped application form was the most critical thing. We tootled off to the local 'Anagrafe' or registration office, at the Comune (in fact in a slightly less exciting building behind the main Comune entrance in the smart building on the left) and awaited our appointment at 10am...which was absolutely on time.

We had the three critical documents immediately to hand - proof of accommodation, proof of income and proof of 1 year's health insurance. Checking and stamping these took no more than 10 minutes - and then the fun started as the address of our house was not 'in the system'. The young chap was slightly concerned at this point, but thankfully Sylvia, who manages the office, lives in our village and said ‘oh that’s the yellow house on the corner’ and suddenly all was sorted out! And then we nearly fell at the last fence - we didn't have the €16 'bollo' - so we were despatched to the Tabacchi to buy a stamp and come back - and there we are, 30 minutes, and the process is under way. We should have it all resolved before 31 Jan whatever happens. It was amazingly quick (but then - as you would imagine - we had everything in order)

And now we wait for the unannounced visit from the Polizia to check we are actually living here. We have put our postbox outside the gates (see a previous post) and are leaving walking boots, watering can etc outside the front door to make the house look lived in -  just in case they come when we’re not in.

Apparently they will come a max of 3 times - so fingers crossed they catch us in and we’re not down the bar...mind you they will probably come into the bar first for a coffee..

The target....
