On Tuesday 7th (Monday being a public holiday for Befana) we headed off to the vets for a check up and vaccination. The vet reckoned that Clara (also - confirmed as a girl!) was about 7 months, so we have settled on that. Also he confirmed that she wasn't pregnant, as we were a bit concerned by the bulging tummy. Turns out however that was a classic 'food baby' as she was still eating everything you put down, a result of her time outside and fending off others, I guess. We also gave her a flea treatment, as there was definitely some evidence of that. All was good..
..and then on Thursday, we let her outside for about an hour at dusk as we popped to the supermarket. When we came back, we saw nothing, but the next morning I noticed a bit of blood on the floor overnight and a scar on her back. Thus..off to the vets again - slightly embarrassing - which resulted in this.....

The vets were great, they fully understood - they thought that it was another cat defending what had previously been its territory. And so, 20 minutes later (and an astoundingly good value €20) we emerged, with Clara shaved and wearing the infamous 'Elizabethan' collar.
Poor Clara...!
