We were in search of a very small piece of furniture to serve as a computer desk and general 'office' zone - and it had to be absolutely tiny and not too expensive! Pete had spotted one in the IKEA catalogue, and so it was on a Friday that we headed off to Ancona, a 2 hour drive under the hills, to Le Marche.
We stopped in for a bite to eat in the IKEA restaurant, and in many ways it was identical to the ones in the UK - except, perhaps, for the fact that you can buy a fill of wine very cheaply for lunch! At the checkout you simply buy an empty glass, 1/2L or Litre jug, and then just serve yourself! The wine will hardly be winning awards in Gambero Rosso, however, a pleasant enough drink with lunch. As is so often the case, the red is easier to drink, though the white (which is what we had with a salmon salad) was sufficiently chilled to avoid being warm and flabby..

And of course there were the classic meatballs (we did not try these though it's good to see some things stay the same!)

And in the end - a lovely (flat-packed) table, which I am delighted to say went together easily enough when we got it home, albeit taking an hour..!
