Sunday, and out for a long run...a Fiat panda pulls up next to me, and an older lady, dressed smartly for Church or for visiting relatives, leans across and asked me if I could assist her.
The dialogue (in Italian of course) went something like this:
Lady: Is there a small village nearby here?
Me: Well, if you take the next left, that is Papiano.
Lady: No, that's not it.
Me: Well, further up the road is Cerqueto.
Lady: No.
Me: A small village you say - well, to the right is S. Elena.
Lady: No, I have just driven through that.
Me: Ah no, you have just come through S. Enea. This is S. Elena, with the square tower.
Lady: No that's not it anyway.
Me: Well you have just passed through San Valentino, perhaps that's it?
Lady: No, that's not the one either.
Me: Castello Delle Forme? (I am running out of options now)
Lady: No.
Me: Ah. (not sure where to go next with this)
Lady: (Pauses) Do you know where Olmeto is?
Me: Yes, you just passed it, the turning is 1 km down the road.
Lady: Ah, thanks then. (driving off with a wave of the hand...)
Clearly, I had not realised that this was a quiz...
